Prospect Profile: Colt Keith

“Keith made headlines pretty much every week; which included his stellar Triple-A debut, where he went (5-5) including a 425-foot blast.”

By Sal Corso:

This entire write-up should just be Keith’s stat line from his 2023 minor league season. It won’t be, but let’s at least start with that:

.306/.380 /.932 27 HRs, 101 RBIs

That’s across both Double-A and Triple-A in the Detroit Tigers minor league system.

Keith made headlines pretty much every week; which included his stellar Triple-A debut, where he went 5-5 including a 425-foot HR. See for yourself.

Colt was not the biggest name in the Tigers organization coming into the season. Matter of fact, he was not even a top 10 name in the organization in 2022, according to MLB.com. The Tigers system is full of talent, mainly because their pro team hasn’t had a winning season in some time. But that’s looking to change. 1st Overall Pick Spencer Torkelson came out of his shell this year, while Riley Greene has shown he can be a staple at the top of a major league lineup. ‘The J’s’, aka Jace Jung and Jackson Jobe are moving through the system. And finally, Colt Keith is looking to make the opening day roster in 2023.

A 3rd Baseman by nature, but defense is where he becomes a tad less impressive. It’s not to say he’s a liability, but I believe he could see several positions on the big league roster before he gets comfortable (1B/Corner OF). However, the Tigers will find a spot for him, since he was only 1 of 10 minor leaguers to drive in 100 RBIs last year.

Colt’s 1st Bowman comes in the 2020 draft set. One that was probably the most hyped release in recent years, outside of the 2020 baseball set with peak-COVID collecting Jasson Dominguez hype. Although that hype settled in previous years given the slow start by Tork and (early) struggles for Robert Hassell III, it seems to be picking up again. His base autos are going for $180 (PSA 10s for $300). That seems a bit high for me, right now. Not saying when he makes the Opening Day Roster that he will not surpass that value, but I’d wait to see if the market cools down for him this offseason.
