Prospect Profile: Andy Pages

“Pages is your guy if you are looking for a player with complete power potential. He has a smooth, effortless swing and when he makes contact the ball goes a long way.”

By Chris Corso:

When you see a player hit 89 home runs in the minor leagues (no matter how long it takes), it’s certainly worth looking into him. Andy Pages is a prospect out of Cuba, who I’ve had my eye on for a few years now, and I’m still intrigued by his power-ceiling.

Described by MLB.com as a “launch-angle-unicorn”, the Dodgers top-prospect suffered a torn labrum just four plate appearances into his season at Triple-A Oklahoma City.

This ultimately ended his season after a combined 112 at-bats across two levels. It was a huge disappointment, as the prospect showed up to Dodgers spring training in the best shape of his career, losing weight looking lean and fit.

Pages has almost five years of minor league experience, logging at-bats dating back to 2018. After hitting 29 home runs at the rookie levels over his first two seasons, Pages spent his last teen year at the Single-A level, where his power took off.

The right-handed slugger bashed 31 home runs and had 88 runs batted in in 2021. His power turned heads and led to a 2022 season in Tulsa where he hit another 26 homers.

57 home runs over two minor league seasons hasn’t been done by many of the best power hitters in today’s MLB!

Pages is your guy if you are looking for a player with complete and utter power potential. He has a smooth, effortless swing and when he makes contact the ball goes a long way (a perfect example above).

His one flaw is that he swings and misses at an above-average rate. Pages has 420 strikeouts in 1400-plus minor league at-bats. In 2022 (his last full season), Pages finished 266th and 235th in contact-rate and at-bat/strikeout percentage, respectively, which covers all Double-A batters with over 100 plate-appearances.

I think 2024 will be an important year for Pages to show he has recovered from his injury. He will start at Triple-A Oklahoma in the Dodgers’ system and have a chance to show he deserves to be in the major leagues at the prime age of 23 years-old.

I truly believe Pages can be an MLB corner outfielder who hits 30-plus homers and logs over 80 runs batted in Dodger Blue.

The key for Pages will be putting his bat on the ball and raising his batting average in an era where batting average is overlooked. Pages has logged a career .257 batting average in the minors and it certainly won’t get easier to keep that average up in the MLB.

Pages will have a chance to fight for a spot in the Dodgers’ outfield strictly because of the power numbers he’s already produced. I look forward to seeing how one of the smoothest powerful swings in the minor leagues rebounds from injury in 2023.

Pages comes in the most hyped Bowman prospect set of all-time. The 2020 Bowman Baseball set includes the classic pandemic-collected names. Jasson Dominguez, Bobby Witt Jr. and Anthony Volpe. There’s not much depth in the set, but you won’t find many other sets with that type of ROI at the top of the list.

Pages, however, comes at a very low-risk value if you’re looking to snatch up his autos. You can grab a PSA 10 auto of his for around $35-$40.

If you believe that the contact will come, you can take a chance on a low-numbered auto this offseason because the power numbers are coming.
