Sebastian Walcott on Modeling His Game After Manny Machado, a Breakout Year, and Being One Step from the Bigs

Top MLB prospect Sebastian Walcott sits down with Stags to talk mentors, his breakout season, and what’s left to prove before the majors.

Walcott, who plays shortstop and third base, models parts of his game after Manny Machado, and the two have similar swings. He got Machado’s number in 2025 and has texted with him since. He’s also learned from the Arizona Fall League and from watching Corey Seager and Marcus Semien work in spring training and on rehab assignments.

This year, he nearly matched his career high in home runs in just 41 games. While rehabbing an injury, he and his hitting coach made two swing fixes: staying back instead of jumping at the ball, and adjusting his bat angle. Next up is defense, where his goal is to make 99% of routine plays.

After stops in Arizona, Frisco, and Round Rock, Walcott finished the season in Triple-A, one call away from the majors.
